SHIP VIBES: lucy is a pretty straight-forward person, verging on blunt, and this carries over to her romantic outlook. she expects regular communication, and god knows she's willing to give it. lucy is an overachiever with a perfectionist streak, she is an archetypal gifted child; she expects to 'succeed' at traditional romance, and is after signifiers of Middle Class American Consumerism™ happiness, even when it might not actually make her happy. which is to say, in a traditional romance, she will consciously lean toward a white picket fence leave it to beaverism, marriage and babies forever lifestyle, because she feels like that is what is expected of her. i do not think that would make her happy though, and perhaps more importantly, i would find that boring to write for this character. consciously i want to steer her away from that lifestyle, which means steering her away from traditionally sweet romantic ships.

or to put it another way: despite what this page is shaping up to look like, not everything has to be darque romance with me; i just like it when things are intense and i crave conflict, and i think it'd be more interesting for this character in specific.

for darker romances, lucy is extremely driven, and i can easily see her becoming obsessed with someone who challenges her or doesn't give her what she wants. she isn't after praise so much as a feeling of acknowledgement or equality, and if that is kept from her, i can easily see it turning into a weird obsession. while lucy seems outwardly very 'normal' compared to a wasteland full of cannibals, she is just as weird as the more maladjusted vaulties in 33, who she grew up around and would see as basically reasonable.

what i'm saying is, lucy is an ideal ship partner if you want someone to morally challenge, who isn't afraid of confrontation, and feels like she has to 'win' all the time. lucy is a weird freak, from a cult, it's just a cult that gave her A+ for cultishness. she is off balance in the wasteland and her desire to reimpose her worldview on it has as much to do with moral uprightness as it does her desire to reestablish something she understands. she's just nice all the time, so she appears more normal than she is.

SMUT VIBES: while marriage and babies are clearly expected of lucy, during the first episode she mostly expresses a desire to 1) fit in with her vault, and 2) experience new things (sexually). these desires are actually out of balance, because the vault is a conformist culture of middle managers. secretly, though lucy is unaware of it, she kind of wants to go apeshit in experiencing new things.

i headcanon 'cousin stuff' to mostly mean non-PIV sex, and while there was probably penetration it just involved jury-rigged sex toys (lucy clearly has the repair perk!) and not a lot of full nudity. vault 33 is clearly not a huge vault, and after 200 years it's crammed with lucy's relatives. while premarital sex is clearly not taboo, you still don't want your dad, uncle, cousin, great aunt, whatever, walking in on you or overhearing you while you fool around with someone who is also related to you. you also don't want to risk pregnancy, especially since, again, that guy is your cousin.

all this to say that lucy is really interested in new experiences, but her experiences probably aren't the average experiences most less experienced characters have had. lucy is not remotely virginal or innocent or embarrassed when it comes to sex. she has just had sex that was mostly:

- half or mostly clothed
- non penetrative
- mostly oral or manual (fingering)
- very quiet
- very quick
- face-to-face missionary or while standing
- with a relative
- indoors

this is what 'vanilla' means to her, and while she doesn't mind repeating those experiences, they don't register as 'kinky' to her. she will be very excited about sexual experiences that aren't that, and that's especially true of experiences that directly contradict those things. any combination of sex outdoors, naked, taking a long time, not missionary, and fully penetrative, seems so kinky to her.

she is probably just not fucking aware of other kinks, because the vault certainly wouldn't teach her about them, though i doubt she'd be really shocked unless they were more hardcore. and while more hardcore stuff may take convincing, she is not impossible to convince, not remotely.

tl;dr lucy is shockingly down to clown despite having the vibes of june cleaver on speed.
